Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Here at Beck and Blackley, we pride ourselves on getting great results with carpal tunnel syndrome cases. Sometimes they are very simple and other times much more complex.  However, it doesn't matter which case it is, conservative treatments should always be attempted before any surgical intervention is done.

Sue, 46-year-old nurse presented with numbness, tingling and weakness in both hands.  The first 2 fingers on the right hand were severely numb and tingly.  A thorough neurological and orthopedic examination was performed.  The results showed a moderate loss in normal cervical (neck) range of motion and a moderate loss in right shoulder range of motion.  Positive Phalen's Test. Positive Tinel's Median Nerve.  Upon checking her cervical myotomes, (which means muscles that are controlled by nerves from the neck), I found that her C-5 (nerve) deltoid (muscle),  C6 biceps,  C7 triceps, & C8 finger flexors were ALL below the normal strength level.  That being said, carpal tunnel syndrome can affect the entire upper extremity as it did with Sue.

We corrected and up regulated cervical myotomes with the use of Quantum Neurology, neurological rehabilitation, a GRT light, chiropractic and rapid release.  Dr. Beck's shoulder protocol and an arthrostim were used in correcting her shoulder and neck range of motion.

This was a very conservative approach and worked extremely well.  There's nothing better than helping a person with a complex pain syndrome especially when using a safe, effective, noninvasive treatment to do so.
Susan was ecstatic with the results!  What a pleasure it is to be able to change lives without the use of drugs and surgery.

Dealing With People

Chiropractic is much more than just a health profession, it is a people business.  One of my golden rules is, treat people the way you would like to be treated and you can't go wrong.  Put another way, see people for who they are instead of who you want them to be.  You must except them as they are rather than judging them for who they are not.

Sometimes we just need to look in the mirror before we start throwing stones.  Of course dealing with the public can be a challenge.  However, the flip-side can be so rewarding.  We would all be better off with more peace, love, tolerance, and compassion.

Food For Thought

We live in a high-pressure high stress fast-paced environment which makes it very difficult to keep the faith, to stay on track.  Negative feelings and thoughts are usually a result of our weaknesses and shortcomings. An acronym for fear is; false evidence appearing real.  My nugget in this blog is for you to find a mutual support group.  An accountability group that will help to keep you focused.  In this challenging world we need to be able to release any undesirable thoughts and feelings because they are creating stress and stealing our energy.  A famous religious leader Nathan E. Tanner once said you cannot live right and think wrong anymore then you can plant weeds and harvest grain.  We cannot think weed thoughts and expect to harvest grain effects.   Put another way, you will reap what you sow. What are you sowing?  What is your harvest yielding?

Knee Pain Miracle

Dan, a 40 year old male who presented with severe bi-lateral knee pain and severe decreased range of motion in the lower extremities.  He was worried about having "arthritis."  He recently had started a new exercise program that consisted of speed walking which really made this worse.
After using neurological rehabilitation, rapid release technique, and a GRT lite we were able to strengthen L-3-sartorius, L-4 tibialis anterior, L-5 toe extensors, S-1 peroneus tertius and L-1 pubic bone adductor group. We also got instant pain relief and regained FULL range of motion.  He thought it was a MIRACLE!.

BELL'S PALSY

Bell's palsy is a disorder of the cranial nerve that innervates muscles that control movements of the face. This cranial nerve is better known as the facial nerve as well as the 7th cranial nerve.  It can and often presents in a patient having a sudden paralysis or weakness covering half of the face.  By this I mean the patient's facial muscles will droop and not respond like they normally would. Examples include, the smile becoming asymmetrical on one side and the eye not closing.
Let's say Rob, a 46 year old white male presented to my office with symptoms of bell's palsy and no history of trauma or infection.  The patient stated unknown immediate onset.  He said "I just woke up and only half of my face worked."  "I didn't know what to do but I remembered my dad had told me several times that his Chiropractor "Dr. Beck" has helped with his cranial nerve deficients including eye sight and focus so I thought I'd give you a try."
A thorough neurological, orthopedic and x-ray examination were performed.  Patient x-rays findings were negative from fractures and pathology.  However the cervical x-ray series revealed structural misalignment effecting C-4,5,6.  Cranial nerve testing was performed.  All 12 cranial nerves were not functioning properly.  I proceeded to correct his cervical subluxations with manual adjustments.  We were able to correct and up regulate all cranial nerves with the use of a GRT-Lite, rapid release tool and Quantum Neurology.  The patient was able to recover approximately 70% of his facial movement on the very first treatment!  Full recovery was attained in five office visits.  By full recovery I mean that the patient was able to chew again, smile normally, have a symmetrical face, and close his eye.  Everybody was excited!
